New York City is particularly magical in the Autumn. There is a brief window – from late September to early November – where ballet flats reign and light jackets abound. It’s the perfect time to embrace a new sweater, schedule outdoor dates with friends, and explore New York City’s beautiful parks and streets from the Upper East Side to the West Village.
This Gap sweater has an elevated designer sensibility and drapes so nicely on the body. It’s also 100% cotton, which means that if you like to layer (I always wear a tee underneath) you won’t be too warm and it doesn’t require the maintenance of cashmere (which I love!). I love pairing mine over black leggings and with the Stuart Weitzman boots I’ve shared here. It’s the perfect easy uniform when I’m on the go. For added style points, wear a Classic Coat by Shop the Curated to finish the look! It takes me from errands do lunch dates with ease. I sized up to a large for a chic very oversized look.
This is a forever classic for me regardless of the season, and the crisp nature of a classic oxford button-up shirt definitely speaks to the polish of New York City. I have always felt most myself in a button-up, which is a fact I attribute to my very stylish Grandma who was rarely seen in any other type of top. Whether you’re pairing this with my favorite denim (see below for the only style I really ever wear!) or leggings (stretch or leather), I always feel pulled together when wearing one. Frank & Eileen have mastered button placement and have a very strong philanthropic mission behind their line. I usually wear a small.
Another favorite of mine from Frank & Eileen is their Capelet (also available in classic white and other colors), which would truly pair well with everything. I purchased my first one at a shop in Bay Head, near our beach house and fell in love. It’s so chic over shorts or paired with jeans. I gifted one to my mom and aunt and now the style is on high rotation in their closets, too! I wear a small.
As far as crew necks go, this one is my favorite. I size up to a medium for a little extra drape and shape.
Uniqlo is always my go-to for fall and winter staples. I love their cashmere crew necks for the price point and the quality. I always get a size small to wear with skirts (like the image below!) and love to have several in a medium or large for a drapey look.
As someone who didn’t wear much denim growing up, I’ve worked on integrating them into my daily style in a way that really feels me. These pants are SO chic and I love the fit and quality!
These jeans are my absolute favorite style. I love how they style perfectly with pretty much any shoe option. I’d also recommend snagging a pair of these jeans in white and black—the more options you have, the better (and each color goes with everything), since you’ll find yourself reaching for them again and again. Having the perfect denim style makes it so much easier to dress and style yourself without having to overthink.
As soon as temps drop I reach for these for pretty much any occasion! They are a great base for any of the tops and sweaters here. I always wear them with a drapey, oversized top to balance the body-conscious nature of leggings in general.
These are great with a bit of a control shaping element!
My daily go-to legging, these are my favorite and I dress them up by wearing them with boots when they’re not paired with my favorite Nikes.
Blazers are a go-to element in my wardrobe, and I love mixing textures like this one over solids, and solids over textures.
I have the Miller Dickey Jacket in the below color combo of navy with gold buttons, and the inverse of black with silver. They are by far the blazers I reach for most and I love that the designers feature inter-changeable zipper-in dickeys to completely change the look and feel of the blazer. The one below, for example, has a denim shirting dickey in that gives the blazer a really styled look.
This beautiful embroidered jacket joined my wardrobe this autumn and I just adore it! I wore it the afternoon we arrived for our wedding weekend and I’ll never forget the memories in it.
My friend Nicola created her brand The Curated as a pregnancy project and it has since grown to be a global brand that women love for elevated, well-priced classics like this coat. I have been wearing this coat on repeat for years!
Marta Scarampi’s ultra-classic shapes in supremely functional silhouettes is a brand that should be on your radar. I love their tweed pieces from their collaboration with Stacie Flinner.
Now let’s get down to it…it gets cold quickly in New York City! If you’re looking for a serious investment piece, look no further than a piece that merges classic function (hello warm fleece!) with pops of edge like the leather trim.
Another hit from my favorites at Veronica Beard, this coat with knit arms is cozy, practical, and eye-catching.
I am a Kim fan and a Skims fan. This is ultra chic for lounging at home or worn under a blazer for a date.
Suzie’s Elma Tank Jumpsuit is the ultimate elegant lounge piece.
I recently found these beauties when browsing Schutz’s Madison Avenue store. They elicit so. many. comliments.
A minimalist favorite on high-rotation in my wardrobe ever since planning my bridal looks, I love how these elognate the leg and literally work with any look.
I’ve long admired Sarah and Alexa’s business, Margaux. Their Mary Jane style is one of my favorites and they just released them in velvet! They also come in this moody shade of velvet.
They’re a classic for a reason. I held out for years before purchasing a pair…and I’m so glad I did. They form to your own calf shape due to the elastic back, and the knee-height of the leather panel can immediately elevate a simple pair of black leggings. I love pairing mine with flowing dresses, too.
My current favorite Nikes – the subtle abstract print and camel paired with blush look so chic when worn with jeans, or an all black look, and my go-to Camel coat.
I love the quality of Métier London, and the design sensibility is so elevated. This tote has architectural lines and the suede is absolutely gorgeous. The perfect elevated home for your laptop and notebook on the go, plus with space for extra shoes. You could also absolutely manage an overnight or weekend with this bag’s spacious interior.
Khaite’s open-top tote is perfect for flights, with easy access for your iPad, book, and a cashmere travel wrap.
You can find a roundup of all my favorite tote bags here — starting with the tote I can’t seem to put down right now. I am madly in love with Cuyana’s new Classic Easy Tote. The double handle is so useful for when I want to throw the tote over my shoulder, and the feel of the leather is so luxe. I am confident that another brand could get away for selling this bag for 8 times the price Cuyana does. Trust me on that!
A must-have to organize the Easy Tote, I love storing my favorite lip glosses, AirPods, keys and a pen in the one I carry in my tote.
A classic lady bag for fall, I love the proportions and color of the Ferragamo Studio Bag.
